Procession to Bliss, performance with wooden installation, variable dimensions, 20 min duration, Halle d' Arde, Lodeve, France, 2013
Social, political and existential matters were primordial drives for this performance. In 2013 the harsh political and economic circumstances in Greece imprinted on me. (These were matters that I dealt with throughout the year, in Athens, in the company of other artists). My vision was to make large, wooden shoes which would function like a platform/ surface to stand on. The shoes unbalanced me to the extend that I could not stand and walk. Ultimately, I made myself learn anew to balance and walk. It was like a physical exercise that I explored the mechaniscs of my body and like practicing mediation.
When I presented the piece in the festival 'Voix de la Mediterranee, 2013', I set a root that I had to complete on the site of Halle d'Arde. It was a symbolic action for the paths humans undertake throughout life. The piece was open to social and existential meanings.
What is Politics? How do we survive today? What is the drive for every step I walk? Is every step the same?
